Every time I go home, this is the FIRST place I go to! This has been our family birthday dinner tradition for at least 43 years, since I celebrated my first birthday here. The egg rolls are top notch! I've had friends bring them to me in SC because there is no comparison in the south! Almond Boneless Chicken is my absolute favorite! You HAVE to try this place and tell them I said hello!

I'd call this vintage Chinese...hasn't changed since the '70s, but still going strong after I am guessing about 40 years. My Dad loves their chicken chow mein and egg rolls...to the point that he craves it. Owner is very friendly and service is prompt!

I have been coming here for many years as it is near where I grew up. The decor is a little rough since it hasn't been updated in probably 20 years, but the food is truly delicious. The owners work almost every shift and while they may not always be the most polished, they care about their customers and they make excellent food. I recommend this place to all of my friends. Some of whom regularly drive from Grosse Pointe to eat here because it is better than any other Chinese restaurant in the area.

The general tso's chicken is the best around- they don't deep fry it, so you get lots of flavor but not tons of breading! Been going here for years and will continue to do so!

Go here for the chicken with pan fried noodles! Unbelievable. Szechuan string beans outstanding as well.

I grew up on this Chinese food and now every time I eat an egg roll somewhere else, I compare it to Golden Crown's. I have yet to find something else that meets my high expectations. Fantastic service and food!

hmm, I don't want to sound mean but my experience here was pretty "Meh". The crab ragoons were very tiny, like fortune cookie sized and not very tasty, like burnt on the outside, and only so so on the inside. I ordered Almond Chicken and I have to admit it was good, I would order it again if I had to go back here but lets face it there are a lot of other places to go to. My girlfriend ordered the General Taos chicken. Let me first explain that like most of us here I have had General T's chicken at a lot of different restaurants in my life and it's always sort of the same, some size of breaded boneless deep fried chicken tossed in a spicy sauce and garnished with some broccoli right? Wrong. Here it is sliced boneless chicken breast swimming in bland gravy sauce, no breading no deep fried crispness, no garnish, nada, just a bowl of this stuff. It was so wrong we thought that the order was somehow wrong, but no the waitress even announced "here is your general taos chicken" when she delivered it to the table. I had to reread the menu and it said something about chicken in a tasty sauce and how it is highly recommended, haha, I bet we're not the first people to fall for that description lol. The prices were not the cheapest either, entrees were about $12 ish I think and you have to choose soup or eggroll, you don't get both. The decor is straight out of the 70's as far as Chinese restaurants go, but you can tell it hasn't been revamped in many moons Ke-mo Sah-bee.

Tried this place for the first time and not too thrilled. It's annoying that most of these places insert way too many veggies the main meat dish, but this place takes the crown. The Mongolian Beef was made up of 96% onion and green pepper. We counted 6pcs of beef in the ENTIRE meal -BAD! The sauce was bland and had no flavor. The only thing that 'bumped' this place up 1 star was the chicken fried rice. It was ok. The egg rolls are not that good. After moving to D 2 months ago, we're slowly losing confidence in this area that offers decent Chinese take-out.

I've been coming here for over 20 years...this is the absolute best Chinese restaurant ever!!! Owners Connie and Stanley are wonderful, friendly and caring. They know all the regulars by name...

I work nearby and one of my coworkers suggested that this place was "great", so I went along for the ride. Well, I should have known better. This place reminded me of bad Cantonese places from the '50s and '60s. A Chinese person parachuted into this place would ask what kind of food they are serving. I had a combo plate and it was pretty poor. The Hot and Sour soup was neither hot nor sour. The fried rice was pretty greasy. The egg roll tasted like supermarket reheats and the Egg Foo Yeoung was slathered in floury brown gravy that was pasty.

Service was bad and food is meh. Food took forever to be served. I still tipped 10% on my $120 order and the Chinese lady had the audacity to tell me I should tip 15%!!! Never again!

Started out OK. Hot and sour soup decent. Steamed chicken dumplings OK - a bit on the tasteless side. But the coup de grace was the main entree. Cantonese style chicken chow mein - a staple for me since childhood. Cut to the chase - it was greasy and totally tasteless. Add to that, minimal menu choices and old 60's decor would wrap up this package as a no go.

Ok, we ALL know there is not really good Chinese in the D...but this place, as true to the yelp rating system is a-ok. Do I dream about it? Hell no. Is it cheaper and just a touch not as good as PF Changs? Hell yes. Everything here is average...and the pricing reflects it. The crab Rangoon has more cream cheese than crab and the spring rolls taste like they do everywhere else. Egg drop and hot and sour soup is also ok. the Schezuan chicken is solid as is the sesame chicken, above average solid. Mongolian beef was a little less than ok...the hubbs liked it, but I thought the beef wasn't meaty enough-if that makes any sense. If you order the veggie subgum, keep in mind it's celery subgum. The veggies are nice and fresh thou. Will I go back? yes, because it's the cheapest and best Chinese closest to home...and I have yet to try the Chop Suey. Aside from PF Changs and Mon Jin Lau this is easy the 3rd best place in the bham/troy area.

Close to home. Golden Crown has become a funny tradition of ours every Christmas Eve ala the family from the Christmas Story. Bonus = I don't have to cook a turkey just to have it eaten by neighborhood dogs. Love the won ton soup. Be sure to order the "soup noodles" with it if you are ordering take out. Good = almond chicken, spicy honey chicken and General Tso's chicken. Spring rolls = sometimes good, sometimes unpredictable.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
